FOUCAULT

A French philosopher who philosophized about sex among other things. One of the things Foucault believed: Once the church decided we needed to confess our sins to a priest in order to save our souls, we needed to find ways to put our sins into words. And so we started describing sex with words that made it seem sinful, and this gave governments and religions ways to regulate sex. As a result, sex became a way of having power over someone, even in intimate relationships. (While quite profound, unless you’ve got some Red Bulls or Rockstars handy, Foucault can quickly induce sleep.)
